About the Artist
Born in New Zealand in 1969 Sara started drawing as soon as she was able to hold a pen and encouraged by her parents did so avidly throughout her school years. Many hours were spent with her two sisters drawing on large sheets of butchers' paper. Sara has always been captivated by wildlife: plants and animals frequently featured in her artwork. After leaving school (with a Subject Exhibition for Art - top student for WA), although not pursuing an artistic career, she continued to draw and paint Australian flora and fauna as a hobby. Inspired by the wildlife surrounding her hills home, Sara began to sell her paintings in local galleries which she continues to this day. In 1993 Sara joined Judy Kotai at Mountolive Studio. Whilst working with Judy she learned a variety of skills including leadlighting and traditional glass painting which she continued along with her watercolour painting. She continues her association with Mountolive Studio Gallery in Hovea where her work is displayed.
Her focus is the beautiful Australian birds, particularly the varieties of native wren and the brightly coloured parrots. She is also fascinated with reptiles (particularly frogs) and small lesser-known marsupials.
A range of environmentally friendly cards and bookmarks featuring Sara’s artwork are also available through selected retail outlets both in WA and interstate.
Sara also produces designs for Australian Fine China which sell successfully nationwide.
